DWP IMDM Environment Maintenance
When shutting the system down, it's best to ensure that activity has ceased in key areas to ensure that data integrity is maintained. Whilst scanning and validation activities may have stopped there may still be plenty of activity occurring.
For example:
-
KIC Server (EDRMS email). Recently downloaded emails will be undergoing analysis and conversion. In the lead-up to a platform shutdown it is recommended to cease comms with the source mailboxes, perhaps via a firewall rule to prevent further messages entering the KIC cache. The cache should be clear of content before the services are stopped. This can be checked within the Message Connector Monitor.
-
KIC Server (CMG email). Recently imported CMG email XML files will be imported. The cache should be clear of content before the services are stopped. This can be checked within the Message Connector Monitor.
-
KCN Server. Recently scanned batches at the MOU may still be uploading. This can be checked via the Batch Manager at the remote site. All batches should be uploaded and no batches reported as In progress.
-
Scansation KcXmlImport. This service will be ingesting DfCNI TAR file batches as they come in. We'd suggest preventing TAR files from entering the monitored folder leading up to a system shutdown. Batch Imports for DfCNI can be monitored via the DC Batch Manager.
-
KTM Server. Any recently imported batches will pass through the KTM Server queue. This can be checked via the DC Batch Manager. There should be no batches in the KTM Server queue.
-
KTM Validation. There should be no batches reported as In Progress at the KTM Validation queue.
Once automated processing activities have ceased, the system can be shutdown. We'd recommend the following shutdown order.
DC
KTM Application servers; APP 04-13 in both DW1 & DW2
KTM Web servers; WEB 03-08 in both DW1 & DW2
KCN Web & KIC servers; WEB 01-02 in both DW1 & DW2
KCN App, PDF, Export servers; APP 01-03 in both DW1 & DW2
Core License servers; LIC1 in both DW1 & DW2
File Servers, if required.
SQL platform, if required.
Restarting the platform should be done in reverse order.
MOU
Optional, depending on the nature of the platform shutdown.
If shutting down the MOU, this should ideally be done prior to the DC shutdown.
Restarting the MOU should be completed once the DC is back up and all services are running.
KcXmlImport servers; APP 04-05 in both DW3 & DW4
RSA servers; APP 01-03 in both DW3 & DW4
Core License server; LIC1 in both DW3 & DW4
File Servers, if required.
SQL platform, if required.
